Dr. Derek Mahony
Founder’s Perspective
Derek Mahony is a Sydney based Specialist Orthodontist who has spoken to thousands of practitioners about the benefits of interceptive orthodontic treatment. Early in his career Dr Mahony learned from leading clinicians the dramatic effect functional appliance therapy can afford patients in orthodontic treatment. He has been combining the fixed and functional appliance approach ever since. His lectures are based on the positive impact such a combined treatment approach has had on his orthodontic results and the benefits this philosophy provides from a practice management viewpoint.
Course Description
Dr. Steven Olmos has shaped the way modern dentistry understands the relationship between TMJ disorders, airway function, and sleep. His work was foundational for me, both as a clinician and as a thinker, and it continues to influence how airway-centered care is practiced worldwide.
After more than four decades in private practice and over thirty years devoted to researching craniofacial pain and sleep-related breathing disorders, Dr. Olmos made a deliberate decision to step away from clinical practice and focus on education and research. That transition was not an ending. It was a handoff.
Today, Dr. Kristina Wolf carries this work forward.
Dr. Wolf represents the next generation of this system, bringing deep scientific training, clinical clarity, and an exceptional ability to teach complex concepts with precision and compassion. Her background in anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, and dental sleep medicine allows her to translate this body of work in a way that is both rigorous and accessible. As a professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, she trains future clinicians while continuing to expand the reach of this integrated approach to TMJ, airway, and sleep.
What makes this education ecosystem unique is not just the evidence behind it, but the continuity of its leadership. Dr. Olmos built a comprehensive, systems-based model grounded in the well-established relationship between TMJ disorders and sleep-related breathing disorders. Dr. Wolf now leads its evolution, ensuring the work remains clinically relevant, scientifically grounded, and responsive to where airway medicine is heading next.
This is not a collection of isolated courses. It is a unified framework, refined over decades, and intentionally carried forward. If you are looking for education that integrates TMJ, airway, and sleep into one coherent diagnostic and treatment philosophy, this is the lineage it comes from.
