Self Check – Breathing Patterns
How do I know if I’m a mouth breather?
Mouth breathing is easy to miss — it often happens at night, or becomes so habitual it feels normal. You might recognize this if any of the following sound familiar.
— You wake up with a dry mouth or sore throat
— Your lips feel dry or chapped, especially in the morning
— People have told you that you breathe loudly or through your mouth while sleeping
— It feels uncomfortable or effortful to keep your mouth closed during the day
— Your nose feels chronically stuffy, even when you aren't sick
— You tend to breathe through your mouth during exercise or when focused
— You find yourself sighing frequently throughout the day
